It’s been almost 30 months since Jordan’s last win on tour, will the former #1 in the world find his form again?

It’s been almost 3 years since Jordan Spieth has won a golf tournament. It wasn’t long ago when Jordan was the number one player in the world, the best putter on the PGA Tour, and a player many people thought could potentially dominate the sport. But it’s now been over 30 months since Jordan last won. What happened? And most importantly, what can you learn from Jordan’s struggles to help you improve?

Lesson 1: Golf is a Difficult Sport

Golf is a complex sport and winning one event on the PGA Tour is a very difficult task to do. Sometimes we forget how difficult the sport is when we see a player like Jordan accomplish so much, so early in his career. Jordan won 11 times on the PGA Tour, including 3 different majors, all before his 24th birthday! To give you some perspective, Sergio Garcia and Justin Rose, both very accomplished golfers, only have 10 PGA Tour wins each.

So, remember the next time you go out and have a bad round its ok. A bad round doesn’t mean that you are a bad golfer, it just means that you didn’t shoot a good score this time on the course. You will have many chances in the future to shoot a good score. Keep practicing hard and know that EVERY golfer in the world sometimes has a bad day on the golf course.

Lesson 2: No Matter How Bad It Gets

You Can Come Back!

History tells us that no matter how bad it gets there is always a way back. Lee Westwood was a top 10 player in the world from 1998-2000 only to fall to 182 at the end of 2002. A decade later, Lee became the #1 ranked player in the world, and just two weeks ago, Lee became the first person in European Tour history to win an event in 4 different decades!

If you are struggling with your game, make sure you listen to your golf coach. Your coach has many years of experience and has already helped many players improve. Trust the process of lessons and hard work, knowing that you will improve as long as you put in the work and keep a positive attitude.

Lesson 3: You Never Lose Your Talent

Do you remember when Tiger Woods came back from his injury and was struggling with his chipping? Many people said that Tiger lost his game and would never win again. In golf you can lose your swing, you can lose your confidence, but there is one thing you can NEVER lose and that is your TALENT.

Eventually Tiger Woods found his swing, started building confidence and with his talent began winning again. Jordan Spieth will never lose his talent, he just needs to work on improving his swing once he can do that, he will build more confidence, and eventually his talent will lead him to another victory.

Ben Hogan once said, “There isn't a man (or woman) playing golf today who couldn't get to scoring in the 70′s if he really tried.” Anyone can be taught how to play the game and as a PGA Professional it’s our job to help build that talent into a consistent and repeatable golf swing. Like Jordan Spieth does, keep a positive attitude, don’t be afraid of hard work, and trust the process and you can accomplish your biggest goals on the course.
